The exhibition Innovations in Photography explores developments in photography in Europe in the mid 19th century, during a time period of techical advances, industrial revolutions and artistic re-orientation. Four key images have been selected by the curators, images that represent novel approaches to photography; the groundbreaking work of Eadwead Muybridge, the documentary photography of John Thomson, the Countess de Castiglione’s use of portrait photography to explore identity, and the development of the colour printing process and its effects on the status of photography as an artform.
